OverviewThe Fast Screening Impactor (FSI) is an AIM (Abbreviated Impactor Measurement) tool that enables rapid, sensitive batch screening for inhalation product QC following full APSD characterisation in development. The device separates emitted dose into Coarse Particle Mass (CPM) and Fine Particle Mass (FPM) using NGI Preseparator-derived technology, supporting simplified but product-specific monitoring workflows.
Key features- Based on NGI Preseparator technology.
- Separates dose into CPM (Coarse Particle Mass) and FPM (Fine Particle Mass).
- Purpose-designed for AIM applications, including AIM-HRT / FSI-HRT variants.
- Compatible with MDIs, DPIs and nasal sprays.
- Interchangeable inserts to select cut-off diameters and flow conditions.
- Standard inserts configured to produce a 5 μm cut-off across specified flow ranges.
Applications- Rapid AIM screening for batch release and QC after development APSD characterisation.
- AIM-HRT (high resistance throat) use for MDIs, DPIs and nasal sprays.
- FSI-QC implementations where a cut-off diameter is chosen near the product MMAD for sensitive monitoring of batch-to-batch shifts.
Available inserts / cut-off and flow options- Inserts available to generate a 5 μm cut-off within a flow range of 30–100 L/min.
- Flow-rate adjustment in 5 L/min increments within that range to match device test conditions (e.g. DPI conditions referenced to an equivalent 4 kPa pressure drop).
- Additional inserts with alternative cut-off / flow combinations available to align cut-off selection with product MMAD.
Operational notes- Designed as a streamlined AIM tool to accelerate QC and release testing where full APSD is known from development.
- Optimised for sensitive detection of changes in the fine/coarse particle balance between batches.
Caractéristiques / spécifications techniques- Technology: NGI Preseparator-derived Fast Screening Impactor design.
- Metrics: separates dose into CPM (Coarse Particle Mass) and FPM (Fine Particle Mass).
- Device compatibility: MDIs, DPIs, nasal sprays.
- Insert-based cut-off control: standard option to achieve 5 μm cut-off; alternative cut-off diameters available via other inserts.
- Flow rate range for 5 μm cut-off inserts: 30–100 L/min, adjustable in 5 L/min increments.
- Designed for AIM / AIM-HRT workflows and for FSI-QC configurations (cut-off selectable near product MMAD).
