OverviewPool Anchor is a stockless High Holding Power (HHP) anchor manufactured for ship anchoring systems, including fully recessed anchor-pocket installations. The product is available in Pool N and Pool TW configurations, with nominal weights ranging from approximately 60 kg to more than 15,000 kg. Smaller sizes can be supplied with a galvanized finish, while painted finishes are used for larger anchors. Pool Anchors can be manufactured for inspection and certification by major classification societies according to project requirements.
IntroductionThe Pool Anchor is a stockless HHP anchor developed for commercial vessels that require a compact anchor profile and compatibility with fully pocketed bow arrangements. The Pool TW configuration uses large flat flukes with shaped digging edges. Crown plates limit excessive penetration and support controlled recovery from the seabed. Pool Anchors are commonly specified for sand and mud bottoms and can be integrated with stud-link anchor chain, end shackles and swivel assemblies.
Holding Power and ClassificationUnder IACS UR A1, an HHP anchor must demonstrate at least twice the holding power of an ordinary stockless anchor of the same mass through full-scale testing. When accepted as a bower anchor, its required mass may be reduced to 75% of the ordinary stockless-anchor mass, subject to classification approval.

Standards and TestingPool Anchors are manufactured in accordance with IACS Unified Requirement A1 and can be certified by classification societies such as ABS, BV, CCS, DNV, LR, NK, KR, RINA or another recognized society when included in the purchase specification. Each anchor is subject to material verification, dimensional inspection, casting or weld inspection, heat-treatment review where applicable, proof-load testing, visual examination and permanent marking. Under IACS UR A1, an HHP anchor is proof tested using the Table 2 load corresponding to an anchor mass equal to 1.33 times its actual mass. After testing, the anchor is examined for cracks, defects and unrestricted movement of assembled parts. HHP classification requires full-scale seabed testing confirming holding power of at least 2 times that of an ordinary stockless anchor of approximately equal mass; tests normally cover mud or silt, sand or gravel, and hard clay or comparable seabeds, with three tests conducted for each anchor and bottom type.
