Straight lifting shackle

Overview
The Kenter shackle consists of two forged halves joined by a center locking block, a taper locking pin and a lead plug. It is the standard detachable connector used to join anchor chain shots (typically 27.5 m / 15-fathom) while allowing disassembly for inspection, maintenance or replacement without cutting the chain. Kenter shackles provide a profile compatible with chain links for smooth passage through hawse pipes, chain lockers and windlass gypsies.

Disassembly
Dismantling the Kenter shackle for re-use is straightforward: drive out the taper pin with a punch to release the lead plug, then tap out the center block to separate the two halves.

Introduction
Manufactured by closed-die forging from alloy steel, each Kenter shackle is machined, heat treated, dimensionally calibrated and proof tested. The assembly comprises two forged body halves, a center locking block, a taper locking pin and a lead plug. The locking system secures the shackle under repeated tensile loading while maintaining a chain-compatible profile.

Standards & Manufacturing
Manufactured from forged alloy steel in accordance with IACS UR W18, IACS UR A1 and ISO 1704, and to the applicable requirements of classification societies (ABS, BV, CCS, DNV, LR, NK, KR, RINA, RS). All load-bearing components are closed-die forged, heat treated, precision machined and dimensionally calibrated to match the corresponding chain grade.

Testing
Each shackle undergoes chemical analysis, forging inspection, heat treatment verification, dimensional inspection, proof load testing, tensile property verification, hardness testing, magnetic particle inspection (MPI), visual inspection, assembly verification and permanent identification marking. Material certificates, inspection reports and classification society certificates are available.

Applications
Suitable for connecting stud link and studless anchor chains, offshore mooring chains and commercial ship anchor cables. Widely used on container vessels, bulk carriers, tankers, LNG carriers, offshore platforms, FPSOs, floating production units and naval vessels.

Maintenance
Inspect regularly for body wear, deformation, center block wear, taper pin security, lead plug integrity, corrosion, cracks and identification markings. Ensure locking components remain securely installed after anchor handling. Replace damaged or worn Kenter shackles immediately in accordance with classification society requirements.
