Overview 16 mm Grade 100 chains are manufactured from high-strength alloy steel and undergo comprehensive testing during production. Each 16 mm Grade 100 chain is proof tested to twice the Working Load Limit (WLL) and has a minimum breaking strength of four times the WLL. The product meets or exceeds applicable OSHA, NACM and ASTM standards. Certificates are available free of charge upon request.
Introduction 16 mm Grade 100 chains are specifically designed and approved for overhead lifting applications. As a premium high-strength alloy chain, Grade 100 provides approximately a 20% increase in WLL compared with a comparable Grade 80 chain, enabling size reduction for a given load requirement. Grade 100 chains are also referenced as Grade 10, System 10 or Spectrum 10.
Parameter - Grade of Chain: NACM and ASTM classifications determine chain grade; higher grades deliver higher WLL for the same chain size.
- Working Load Limit (WLL): The maximum load that should be applied in direct tension to an undamaged straight length of chain.
- Proof Test: The manufacturing integrity test force applied in direct tension; chains are proof tested to 2x WLL. Proof test results are not to be used as design or service criteria.
- Minimum Breaking Force: The minimum tensile force at which a sample chain segment breaks during testing; typically 4x WLL for these chains. Breaking strengths are manufacturer acceptance tests and not design criteria.
- Overhead Lifting: Lifting operations that elevate a freely suspended load to a position where dropping the load could cause injury or damage; Grade 100 chains are approved for overhead lifting.
