Parameters
Grade of Chain: NACM (National Association of Chain Manufacturers) & ASTM classify chains by grade; higher grades yield higher working load limits for the same chain size.
Working Load Limit (WLL): The maximum working load to be applied in direct tension to an undamaged straight length of chain.
Proof Test: The minimum tensile force applied during manufacturing as an integrity test; not to be used for service or design criteria.
Minimum Breaking Force: The minimum force at which the chain broke during manufacturer testing; this is an acceptance test and not a service/design criterion.
Overhead Lifting: Lifting that positions a freely suspended load where dropping it could cause personnel injury or property damage.
