Description

Overview
Medusa 510 is a calibrator for temperature probes covering a range of 30°C to 550°C, offering a large calibration volume of 45 mm diameter by 285 mm depth. Accessories allow conversion for surface sensor calibration, use as a blackbody source for infrared thermometer calibration, and implementation as an ITS-90 Fixed Points system with calibration uncertainties down to 0.001°C.

Operation and use
The bath includes, in addition to the main zone, two complementary zones (top and bottom) to compensate for temperature losses at the ends and ensure a constant temperature inside the insert. For comparison calibration, Medusa 510 must be used with an insert. The standard insert has six 8 mm diameter wells at 250 mm depth. An alternative insert of 44 mm × 170 mm depth is available and can be suspended to be height-adjusted by the user.
Medusa 510 is available in two versions: model B (Basic) and model S (On-Site). Model B is equipped with a controller displaying the setpoint and the temperature measured by the control probe. Model S adds a second digital indicator allowing connection of a reference probe to improve accuracy (elimination of gradient and loading errors), a universal temperature input (Pt100, thermocouples Types K, N, R, S, L, B, PL2, T, J and E, and linear process inputs) and a timer to regulate the bath between two temperatures and automate the execution of ITS-90 fixed points. The indicator can be programmed with up to 5 calibration points and the indicator and controller are addressable via communication interfaces.
For surface sensor calibration and blackbody source use, the use of an external reference probe is recommended. For laboratory use, it is preferable to connect Medusa 510 to a high-performance temperature indicator.
