netHOST RTE is a standalone Real-Time Ethernet master that enables industrial PCs and embedded systems to control EtherCAT networks via a standard LAN connection. Services between the controlling unit and the device are transported over a TCP/IP-based protocol. A Windows DLL and C source code for embedded integration are provided; the API is identical to Hilscher cifX PC cards, allowing the netHOST to function as a remotely controllable PC card for field installations.

Operation and features
Up to 100 bytes of process data inputs and outputs can be exchanged over the LAN in approximately 1 ms. Acyclic services to subordinate Real-Time Ethernet stations are supported. Two devices can be operated in a redundant pair: if one device fails or a line is interrupted, automatic switchover to the other device is possible. Replacement units can be loaded and commissioned within seconds using the SD memory card slot without additional software.
