Overview
NIC 52-REFO is a compact DIL-32 single-chip communication module (netIC) designed for simple field devices such as barcode readers, identification systems, valve manifolds and I/O blocks that require connection to a fieldbus or Real-Time Ethernet system via fiber optic cable. The netIC integrates a complete network controller (netX 52), including an integrated 2-port switch and hub, and provides serial host interfaces (UART, SPI) for low data-throughput applications. One hardware design supports multiple communication systems by loading different firmware. Direct I/O data exchange is possible via an external shift register, enabling very simple devices to operate without a dedicated host processor. The product benefits from a 10-year delivery guarantee based on netX technology.

Description
Simple field devices with low data throughput use serial host interfaces (UART, SPI) to communicate with the netIC. The NIC 52-REFO is a full single-chip solution in DIL-32 format based on the netX 52 network controller. It contains all necessary components for fieldbus and Real-Time Ethernet connectivity, including a 2-port switch and hub. Different communication systems are supported by loading the appropriate firmware. Application payload is exchanged using simple read/write commands over the serial interfaces; Modbus RTU is implemented as a serial protocol. Control of conventional shift registers via a synchronous serial interface allows basic digital I/O without an additional host processor. A 10-year delivery guarantee applies due to the underlying netX platform.
