Description

Short description
NIC 50-RE/NHS is a compact DIL-32 communication IC without a heat sink, designed to provide Real-Time Ethernet connectivity for simple slave devices that do not include their own host processor.

Highlights
  • Compact DIL-32 module for cost-efficient field devices
  • Host connection with Modbus RTU via SPI or UART
  • Single hardware supports multiple Real-Time Ethernet systems by loading different firmware
  • Direct I/O-data connection via external shift register (synchronous serial control)
  • Reduced height using a heat-conductive gel foil
  • Direct heat dissipation through the housing wall (no external heat sink required)

Description
The NIC 50-RE/NHS (netIC) is a single-chip communication module based on the netX network controller. It integrates a complete fieldbus/Real-Time Ethernet interface including an integrated 2-port switch and hub in the compact DIL-32 form factor. The netX technology covers a wide range of fieldbus and Real-Time Ethernet systems; by loading different firmware images a single NIC can serve multiple communication standards.

Serial host interfaces (UART, SPI) allow simple read/write commands to transfer payload to the application. The widely used Modbus RTU protocol is implemented as a serial protocol. For very simple slave applications, conventional shift registers can be controlled via the synchronous serial interface as direct digital I/O, removing the need for a separate host processor. A 10-year delivery guarantee is provided thanks to the netX lifecycle.
