OverviewThe NICEB-FB netIC evaluation board provides a ready-to-use slave solution for simple field devices with low data throughput (e.g. barcode readers, identification systems, valve manifolds, I/O blocks). The board integrates a netIC single-chip module in DIL-32 format based on the Hilscher netX network controller, including a full fieldbus/Real-Time Ethernet interface and an integrated 2-port switch and hub. A serial host interface (UART and SPI) allows payload transfer to the application via simple read/write commands. By loading different firmware images the same netIC module can act as a slave for multiple protocols. The Modbus RTU serial protocol is implemented and conventional shift registers can be controlled as digital I/Os via a synchronous serial interface, enabling basic applications to run without a dedicated host processor.
