Description

Overview
The 8742A family are quartz K‑Shear shock accelerometers designed to measure impulse, impact and pyrotechnic shock during high‑speed events in industrial test and measurement applications.

Main features / advantages
  • Low impedance, voltage‑mode output
  • Unique shear‑mode four‑quartz crystal sensing element
  • Measuring ranges: ±5000 g, ±10000 g, ±20000 g, ±50000 g
  • Rugged connector for repeated connections
  • Wide bandwidth with ≈100 kHz resonant frequency
  • CE compliant

Description
The sensing element uses a shear‑mode configuration of four quartz crystals combined with an annular pre‑load sleeve and integrated seismic mass. This design yields a high element resonance (≈100 kHz), enabling accurate capture of high‑speed transients while minimizing zero shift and internal amplifier saturation. The sensors exhibit low sensitivity to thermal transients and extremely low transverse and base‑strain sensitivity. Using quartz prevents depolarization under high shock. A case‑isolated option provides electrical isolation without compromising resonant frequency.

Variants
  • 8742A5 — K‑Shear shock accelerometer, ±5000 g
  • 8742A10 — K‑Shear shock accelerometer, ±10000 g
  • 8742A20 — K‑Shear shock accelerometer, ±20000 g
  • 8742A50 — K‑Shear shock accelerometer, ±50000 g
