OverviewType 8044 is a charge-mode shock accelerometer designed to measure mechanical shocks up to 30000 g. The sensor uses a quartz compression (stack) element with an approximate resonant frequency of 90 kHz. The sealed, lightweight miniature housing contains a piezoelectric assembly with a seismic mass preloaded against the quartz stack. Due to preload the unit exhibits asymmetric withstand capability between positive and negative directions; avoid exceeding the specified negative-direction limits.

Construction and operationThe piezoelectric assembly consists of a seismic mass preloaded on a quartz element stack. The compression quartz design provides accurate measurements and minimal zero shift under repeated high shocks. Preload causes directional asymmetry: the accelerometer withstands higher acceleration in the positive direction than in the negative (force directed through the connector toward the base). Install and orient the sensor according to the specified axis and direction limits.
