Description

Overview
Excelitas humm3 technology is a complete broadband pulsed system optimized for composite heating processes such as Automated Fiber Placement (AFP), Automated Tape Laying (ATL) and filament winding. humm3 Enterprise is configured for industrial production and can be mounted on robots; optional multi‑tow configurations provide independent temperature profiles per fiber tow. humm3 Discovery systems are configured for research and development.

Key capabilities
  • Broadband output that can be tailored to a variety of composite materials without the safety constraints of lasers.
  • High peak power with instantaneous temperature ramp‑up and rapid cool‑down to enable processing orders of magnitude faster than traditional infrared heaters.
  • Heads configurable in tandem to increase heating width and deposition rate; selected configurations allow individually addressed heating profiles per fiber tow.

Specifications
  • Broadband spectral output suitable for a wide range of composite materials.
  • Heating performance comparable to laser systems in terms of speed, significantly faster than infrared heating.
  • Precise three‑parameter control: pulse duration, power and frequency.
  • Intelligent digital control that synchronizes with process speeds.
  • Full integration capability for dynamic robotic production cells.
  • Optional configurations enabling independent heating of individual fiber tows.

Features
  • Dynamic temperature control with instantaneous heat‑up and cool‑down for very fast processing cycles.
  • Standard quartz light guides available in 25 mm and 50 mm; custom geometries on request.
  • Compact, agile head designed for complex curvatures, confined spaces and low‑payload robots.
  • Plug‑and‑play head connectivity for rapid replacement and process adaptation.
  • Broadband radiation provides fast heating and cooling without residual lamp heat, suitable for dry fiber, thermoplastics and a wide range of composite materials.
  • Enhanced safety: broadband emitter removes the need for Class 4 laser enclosures and associated safety management.

Applications
  • Filament winding for pipes and pressure vessels.
  • Lightweight pre‑formed structures and complex composite components.
  • Aerospace panels and substructures.
  • Composite reinforcement and sintering of ceramic matrix composites (CMCs).
