OverviewDichroic reflectors are ideal for UV curing processes on heat-sensitive substrates as they minimize heat reflection onto the substrate. These reflectors can easily retrofit into existing Fusion UV microwave-powered irradiators or be used in new UV curing systems.
DetailsDichroic reflectors have 50 or more dielectric coating layers applied to their surface. The coating reflects ultraviolet (UV) wavelengths while absorbing much of the longer infrared (IR) wavelengths; the absorbed IR heat dissipates from the reflector surface by air-cooling. The reflectors are exactly the same dimensions as conventional reflectors used in Fusion UV microwave-powered UV curing systems. Our reflectors are available as Standard Dichroic and Dichroic Plus versions.
Important Safety NoteLamps contain mercury. Manage in accordance with local, state or federal disposal laws.
How they improve UV curing performanceBy filtering out visible and IR radiation, dichroic reflectors help direct only the usable UV light onto the target surface. This results in higher UV intensity at the cure site and reduces the thermal load on temperature-sensitive substrates such as optical fibers, plastics, electronics and specialty coatings. Reduced heat buildup contributes to greater system stability and more consistent curing across longer runs.
Benefits- Improved UV efficiency: concentrates usable curing energy on the target area for more efficient polymerization of UV-reactive coatings and adhesives.
- Reduced thermal load: significantly reduces heat onto the substrate during UV curing, critical for plastic substrates, coated wires, sensitive electronics and thin films.
- Longer system life: controlling excess heat protects components like quartz tubes, reflectors, and light shields and reduces thermal cycling.
- Consistent process results: stable thermal conditions yield more uniform UV dose delivery and reduce variability in cure depth, adhesion, and surface finish.
- Cleaner cure zone: less heat results in fewer vaporized contaminants and reduced need for frequent cleaning.
Versions- Standard Dichroic Reflector: designed primarily for use with D bulb, inks, and some comparatively slow processes.
- Dichroic Plus Reflector: provides enhanced reflectance in the UVC band (200-260 nm) for improved surface cure, typically with H bulbs.
